Techniques to Ruin a (Potentially)
Good Oral Presentation We all aquire
sophisticated skills at School or University, only to find out that, once we are employed,
the central trade required is COMMUNICATION. Dread of all, of course, is not the
motivating MEMO, nor the refreshing REPORT --- No, alas, it is the awful ORAL
presentation. Armed with shaking hands, and quivering voice, we mix up transparencies,
miss important information, and forget the key points. What can be done to give a talk
that COMMUNICATES, that passes along the intended message and avoids the pitfalls? Here I
present a USER'S MANUAL for presentations that require and use graphical aids. No theory,
no philosophy; just a set of guides that are well tried and can be easily followed, AND
THAT GUARANTEE FAILURE. |

This event took place at:
11h00 on Sunday, 30.05.1999
at
Yuval Levy
Konradstr. 11
8005 Zurich
On this Sunday we enjoyed a particularly light-hearted, yet
acutely insightful observation of our public speaking habits - or rather - boo boos.
Our guest speaker - Prof. Dr. JAN KORVINK - could not have been more qualified. Being at
IMTEK, the Institute for Microsystem Technology at the University of Freiburg, Germany,
Jan deals almost exclusively with joint business ventures between the institute and
companies world-wide. This means that no-nonsense communication skills, cultural
sensitivity, as well as the make-or-break 15 minutes are central to his daily raison
d'être. We thoroughly enjoyed his wisdom.
MONICA - as host - got the brunch buffet up and running - and the chocolate-coated
strawberries even managed to keep their hats on in the summer heat.
