25.10.98 How is productivity defined in modern economic theory? Limits to growth revisited.

The panic caused by various publications at the beginnings of the seventies seems to be outdated. The planet appears to be limitless in its supplies to foster wealth for a still growing global population. The only concern harbours on wrong price incentives, leading to malpractice and failing allocations of scarce resources. Who is right? Are we doomed and shall we rejoice every morning that the capitalistic society has got its way?

Dear BWAD-All,

The diversity of BWAD's offerings was further demonstrated on Sunday, 26 October, with the challenging presentation and subsequent discussion round concerning GROWTH (AND THE POSSIBLE LIMITS THEREOF), handled deftly by the session's host: FREDERIC METHLOW. Not only Frederic's mastery of the subject matter, but also the ability to manage a motivated (and certainly, opinionated) group of individuals, was clearly evident.

We were privileged to attend this event in the superb home of our gracious host - GIOVANNA LAGUTAINE - who created an environment so highly conducive to the nature (discussion round vs. pure presentation), as well as content. With sunshine drifting from nook to cranny of her splendid loft, the realisation of how fortunate we have been to be the benefactors of growth -in terms of the sumptuous buffet and setting - clearly permeated our conscience.

Many thanks - GIOVANNA and FREDERIC - for your deep commitment to the BWAD continuum.

A further, very positive feature of the session, was the open and constructive discussions regarding the future development of BWAD, essentially forged for the first time by the group as a whole. This is particularly ingratiating - for us all - as the group has obviously started to sense the mutual responsibility we have to perpetuate something good, something we take pleasure in being part of.

Within the next 2-3 weeks, Monica and Yuval will be sending out the topic selection for the first six months of 1999 - for your careful perusal as well as ratification.
