Four basic forms for retaining power:

Democracy, Totalitarian, Authoritarian, Monarchy , [home]

Power is given to the leader by the people and generally for a limited period of time

As it is not natural to voluntarily give up power, democracy is not a natural form of power.

Democracy is the main government form of the western world today

Attention: different countries who calls themselves democracies have different understanding of what democracy is. The anglo-saxon meaning of the term is the absolute priority of individual rights while in the latin culture it is exactly the opposite, sacrificing the individual rights to the wealth of the group.

Each of these forms is based on specific values that rules the political game. A change from one system to another is defined as a revolution. It doesn't have to be violent or bloody. The key point is that the fundamental values of the systems are different.

There are very few exceptions where values have been changed without revolutions. Hitler went from a weak democracy into a totalitarian system without revolution.

Anarchy is no form of government. Anarchy is a situation with no rules and can only exist in very short periods of time while changing from one ruling system to another.
