| ISO 9000 is the international standard for quality systems. An
effective quality management system is a pre-requisite for any business to operate
effectively. As part of management's commitment to be a world class product or service
provider, a quality system should be implemented and certified by external auditors. The
quality system should act as integrator of the various legacy and transactional systems in
an organisation. The ISO 9000 quality system should also provide an effective information
management system and ensure the integrity of information.
The quality system should also form the foundation of the continuous improvement process
through corrective action procedures.
The main objective of a quality system is to provide support to enhance
performance and ensure that:
Processes and procedures are documented and
optimised
Preventive action is implemented
Records are kept of all non-conformance
Records are linked to the relevant equipment, processes or
procedures
Designs and contracts are reviewed
Changes and modifications are analysed to determine the total impact in
terms of costs, schedule, performance, life cycle cost, reliability, availability and
maintainability and legislative compliance
